UK Voters Head to Polls to Elect Members of Parliament
Millions of voters across the UK are casting their ballots today to elect 650 Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons, the lower house of Parliament. Each constituency will elect one MP through a first-past-the-post system, where the candidate with the most votes wins. Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time.
Exit polls will provide an initial snapshot of the election results as soon as voting closes, giving insights into the potential makeup of the next government. The Conservative Party, in power since 2010, faces a tough challenge as recent polls indicate a lead for the Labour Party.
The results will unfold overnight, with parties aiming to win at least 326 seats for a majority. In the event of a hung parliament, parties can form coalitions to appoint the next prime minister.
