Breaking News: Turkmenistan and ITC Collaborate to Simplify Customs Procedures

In a recent meeting between Turkmenistan’s State Customs Service and the International Trade Center (ITC), discussions were held regarding the implementation of a project aimed at streamlining customs procedures. The joint project, ‘Turkmenistan: Enhancing trade resilience and integration,’ supported by the EU and ITC, is designed to assist Turkmenistan in its journey towards joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Key points of discussion included the digitalization of customs processes, training workshops, overseas trips to study risk management systems, and the introduction of an electronic queue management system. Additionally, the ITC delegation will conduct a three-day training program for civil servants on the WTO agreement on trade facilitation and the concept of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation.

Last year, ITC and the EU signed a six-million-euro agreement to aid Turkmenistan’s government in WTO accession. The agreement was signed by EC’s Myriam Ferran and ITC’s Executive Director, Pamela Coke-Hamilton, showcasing a strong commitment to supporting Turkmenistan’s integration into the global trade system.
