Exciting news for travelers as South African Airways announces plans to increase its destinations from Johannesburg by two-thirds by April. Despite a collapsed deal with an investor, the airline is focusing on rebuilding its business with an aim to add nine new destinations to its existing 14. Interim CEO John Lamola stated that the company is cash positive and has the funds to support its expansion, aiming to boost the number of aircraft by 50% to 21 by March.
Although plans to sell a stake in the carrier were abandoned, South African Airways is determined to expand without seeking bailouts. Lamola hinted at potential new routes to Frankfurt, Munich, London, and the east coast of the US in the coming years.
The airline is also exploring partnerships to enhance connectivity, focusing on regional and international markets over domestic. With a rich history dating back to 1934, South African Airways is set to soar to new heights with its strategic growth plans.
