Russia presents as mediator while escalating attacks in Eastern Ukraine | Russia-Ukraine conflict News

Russia has recently positioned itself as a peacemaker in the conflict it initiated in Ukraine, criticizing NATO and Ukraine while exiting the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in protest. This diplomatic move came after Romania denied visas to the Russian delegation for the OSCE’s annual session in Bucharest, leading to accusations of discrimination and Russophobia.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has been actively engaging in peace efforts, hosting a recent peace conference in Switzerland to discuss ending the conflict. At the conference, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy outlined plans for comprehensive peace initiatives, including resolutions on nuclear safety at the United Nations General Assembly.

Despite ongoing hostilities, Ukrainian allies continue to support its defense efforts, signing military agreements and providing aid. Recent developments include Lithuania and Estonia committing to spend a portion of their GDP on Ukraine’s defense, and the EU pledging military assistance through the Ukraine Assistance Fund and bilateral agreements.

Ukraine has also been conducting strategic strikes against Russia, using drones to target key infrastructure like the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant. This underscores the ongoing military dynamics in the region and the complex nature of the conflict.
