President Emmanuel Macron’s political landscape is shifting after the recent elections. With his majority in the Assemblée Nationale lost, he faces the possibility of a cohabitation government or no majority at all.
After the far-right RN’s victory in the European elections, Macron dissolved the Assemblée Nationale and called for snap elections. However, his coalition only secured 21% of the vote in the first round on June 30.
In a video by Le Monde, two likely scenarios for the final round on July 7 are explored. Either the far-right RN or left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire alliance could gain an absolute majority, leading to a cohabitation government. Alternatively, no party may secure a majority.
