The historic Potsdam Synagogue is finally opening its doors to the public in the heart of the city, near the Brandenburg state parliament building. The impressive sand-colored brick building, almost two decades in the making, features distinct Gothic-inspired architecture with arched windows and a four-story high facade.
After years of planning and negotiations, the synagogue will now serve as a hub for the diverse Jewish communities in Potsdam. The construction, costing €16.5 million, was completed with the support of the Central Welfare Board of Jews in Germany. The synagogue will be shared by four different Jewish communities in the city.

As the city’s Jewish population looks forward to a symbolic milestone, the opening ceremony will see dignitaries including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Olaf Scholz in attendance.
