The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently took action against unregistered bakeries in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas of Rivers State. Four bakeries were shut down for operating without proper registration licenses and maintaining unhygienic practices.

The Director of NAFDAC, South-South Zone, Chukwuma Oligbu, emphasized the agency’s commitment to eliminating quack and substandard bakeries in the state and region. Following the closures, the bakery owners were summoned to the NAFDAC zonal office for questioning.

Oligbu warned that those who violate NAFDAC regulations face prosecution and possible jail time. The shut-down bakeries included Reigns Bakery, Dvine Freedom Bread, De Heroes Bakery, and The Lord’s Abundant Bakery. These establishments were found to have poor hygiene practices and lack of proper equipment.

NAFDAC continues to urge producers to adhere to standards and seek guidance from the agency to avoid closure and legal consequences. The agency remains vigilant in ensuring compliance and safety in the production of regulated products.
