Morocco is on a mission to double the capacity of its airports to 80 million passengers by 2035, up from the current 40 million. Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, shared this ambitious goal during the 28th Session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO).
The expansion and renovation of several airports are in the pipeline to pave the way for the joint organization of the 2030 Football World Cup. Morocco plans to upgrade airport facilities, enhance air navigation systems, and boost air connectivity, especially for low-cost carriers.
Furthermore, national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) aims to quadruple its fleet by 2037, with the vision of turning Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport into a key intercontinental hub. Morocco is also focusing on cybersecurity, digitalization, and regulatory reforms to elevate its standing in the international civil aviation arena.
The country has made significant strides in enhancing aviation safety and security, reflected in its impressive 85% average score on civil aviation safety audits by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Morocco’s commitment to advancing its civil aviation sector is clear and unwavering.
