Charities working with individuals in direct provision centers have raised concerns about the growing number of people who are being asked to leave their accommodations and are becoming homeless in Dublin. Department of Housing data shows a 25% increase in individuals ending up in emergency housing in the 12 months leading up to May this year.
Recent months have seen hundreds of asylum seekers with permission to stay in Ireland being instructed to leave direct provision or relocate to other accommodation centers across the country. This has caused fear and uncertainty among those affected, such as Ruby and Kate, who are struggling to find suitable housing due to various obstacles.
As the situation intensifies, Action Aid has called on the Government to make exemptions for vulnerable groups like lone parents to allow them to stay longer in their current accommodations. The lack of support for these individuals has left many feeling abandoned and unsure of their future.
This issue has highlighted the challenges of integration and the need for a comprehensive plan to address the growing number of individuals facing homelessness after leaving direct provision centers. Without proper support and planning, the situation is only set to worsen.
