Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Faces Backlash Over Far-Right Youth Group
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has seen a rise in her influence in Europe, thanks to the success of her far-right party, Brothers of Italy. Despite efforts to distance her party from its neo-fascist roots, recent exposés have revealed disturbing behavior by the party’s youth group, National Youth.
Hidden camera footage captured members of National Youth making racist, antisemitic, and fascist remarks. The videos show young activists praising Benito Mussolini, giving fascist salutes, and expressing anti-Black and antisemitic sentiments. Meloni swiftly condemned the behavior, emphasizing that there is no place for racism or antisemitism in her party.
While left-wing parties demand the expulsion of the offending members, Meloni faces criticism from within her own party. Some members downplayed the severity of the situation, while others deflected attention to antisemitic acts by left-wing protesters. Despite these challenges, Meloni remains resolute in her commitment to a forward-looking, moderate image for Brothers of Italy.
