A high-profile terrorist was killed in an intense shootout operation conducted by security forces in Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on Thursday. The operation also left seven people injured, including an accomplice of the terrorist, according to GB’s Interior Minister Shams Lone.

The terrorist, identified as Shah Faisal, had masterminded a deadly bus attack in Chilas last December, resulting in multiple casualties. Following the shootout, the GB health department imposed a health emergency in all facilities across the district to ensure prompt medical assistance for the injured.

Security has been heightened in the region, with increased vigilance at the Karakoram Highway and Gilgit city. The incident has prompted the closure of KKH and Babusar Road as precautionary measures, as authorities continue to search for another terrorist at large.

The intensified operations are part of Pakistan’s response to a rising militant threat, with a focus on combating groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating near the Afghanistan border.

With efforts to maintain public safety and combat terrorism, the government is working towards stabilizing the situation and ensuring the security of all citizens in the region.
