Finland is set to implement stricter regulations for entry into the country starting September 1, as approved by the Finnish government. President Alexander Stubb will formally approve the changes, which include provisions in the Aliens Act regarding residence permits. The Act will specify situations where permits may be refused, such as providing false information, illegal stay, illegal work, and arranged marriages.
The procedures for asylum seekers to obtain residence permits, including identity verification, will be significantly tightened. Refugees will not be able to change their legal status, such as by securing employment. Additionally, biometric data will be added to entry refusal information in the Schengen information system.
These changes align with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s government program aimed at tightening immigration policies in Finland. The new regulations reflect the country’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of its immigration system.
