The current Power Station is nearing the end of its life and the replacement has been a key priority for numerous Assemblies.

Following approval at Executive Council on Tuesday 25 June, the Falkland Islands Government Public Works Department can now proceed with the final design and delivery program for the New Power Station in Stanley. The new station aims to improve energy efficiency and align with the transition to renewable energy.

With the current Power Station reaching the end of its life, the need for a new station has become a top priority in the Capital Program. The new station is expected to reduce unplanned power cuts and provide more reliable electricity for the growing city of Stanley.

Costs for the project will be included in the Capital Program, and the final value will be disclosed once all costs have been settled. Orders will be placed with key suppliers to commence the construction phase, including early access road and compound enabling works.

MLA Pete Biggs expressed his support for the project, stating, “The new power station will provide electrical security for Stanley as we continue to develop renewable energy systems for the future.”
