Exciting News: Girls’ Education South Sudan (GESS) has officially kicked off the 2024 cash transfers program! In a recent press release, GESS revealed that girls in Primary 7 to Senior 4, as well as those in the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) levels 3 and 4, will receive cash transfers this year.
But here’s the twist – for the first time ever, boys with disabilities in classes Primary 7 to Senior 4 and learners with disabilities in ALP levels 3 and 4 will also be eligible for cash transfers. This inclusivity is a significant step towards ensuring equal access to education in South Sudan.
The GESS cash transfers are designed to break down economic and social barriers that hinder girls’ education. By providing financial support, GESS is empowering girls and young people with disabilities to enroll and thrive in school, ultimately contributing to the country’s development.
Since its inception in 2014, GESS has made huge strides in increasing girls’ enrollment in primary schools. With support from various international agencies, including the UK government, Canada, USAid, the EU, SIDA, and the Norway Ministry of Foreign Affairs, GESS continues to make a positive impact on education in South Sudan.
