Russian missile destroys Ukrainian military helicopter

A detonation from an Iskander missile at an airfield in the Poltava region has resulted in the destruction of a stationed Mil Mi-24, as reported by the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

The strike, which occurred on Tuesday at the Poltava airfield in central Ukraine, targeted the parked Mi-24 combat helicopter along with several vehicles utilized by the engineering staff at the facility. The attack, carried out by an Iskander tactical missile, was captured in drone footage released by the ministry, showcasing the destroyed Ukrainian aircraft and multiple ground explosions believed to be caused by cluster munitions.

Earlier in the week, a similar Iskander attack in the same region damaged seven Su-27 fighter jets at a different airfield, as noted by the Russian military.

The Poltava airfield holds historical significance for its involvement in destroying part of the Soviet strategic bomber fleet following the Soviet Union’s dissolution. Some decommissioned aircraft were preserved on-site as part of an outdoor museum, as shown in the video footage.
