The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sentenced a couple, Ezimora Okechukwu and Ezimora Obioma, for their roles in indecent handling and sexual assault of their housemaid. Okechukwu received seven years for indecent handling and three years for sexual assault, while Obioma received one year of community service for concealing the crime. The incident occurred in July 2022 in Lagos State.
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to a reduced sentence for a plea bargain. The prosecution counsel noted their remorse and lack of previous convictions. Justice Ramon Oshodi described the couple’s actions as heinous and sentenced Okechukwu to seven years and three years concurrently, and Obioma to one year of community service.
