In Oyo State, nurses and midwives are standing firm in their ongoing strike, demanding the state government to meet their needs before returning to work. The Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Dr. Samuel Adeyemi, emphasized that the strike will continue until their demands are addressed, impacting patients who lack essential care in government hospitals and health centers.
Their demands include urgent mass recruitment, resolution of promotion date errors, and implementation of career progression opportunities. Despite the government’s recruitment efforts, the association insists on fair treatment and payment of outstanding salary arrears. Adeyemi remains resolute in the strike until Governor Seyi Makinde takes decisive action.
On the other hand, the Chairman of the State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, highlights recruitment efforts in the state and urges the striking healthcare workers to consider the public interest. The recruitment process is ongoing, with plans to address staff shortages in hospitals by the end of the year.
As the stalemate continues, the healthcare system in Oyo State remains strained by the absence of critical medical personnel, underscoring the importance of resolving the dispute for the well-being of the people.
