Malaysia court denies ex-PM Najib’s house arrest plea

A Malaysian court has rejected former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s attempt to obtain a document that would allow him to serve the rest of his prison sentence at home, according to his lawyer. Najib had filed a judicial review application claiming that an “addendum order” from the former king was issued alongside a decision by the pardons board to reduce his 12-year sentence for corruption in the 1MDB scandal. He wanted the court to force the government to confirm the existence of the royal order, which he believed would entitle him to house arrest for the remainder of his term.

Despite his efforts, Najib’s request was dismissed by the court, leaving him to continue serving his sentence in prison. The outcome of the legal battle adds another layer to the ongoing saga surrounding Najib’s involvement in the massive financial scandal that has rocked the country.
