Welcome to the Review of Government Agencies and Commissions!

The House of Representatives Special Ad Hoc Committee on the Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions has begun the process of reviewing the recommendations of the Steve Oronsanye Report. This report, submitted to the Federal Government in 2012, aims to reduce the cost of governance by merging, scrapping, and relocating some departments and agencies.

Following a Federal Executive Council meeting on February 26, 2024, chaired by President Bola Tinubu, the implementation of the report was approved. The recommendations include merging 29 government agencies, subsuming eight parastatals into other agencies, relocating four agencies to various ministries, and scrapping one. A committee, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has been tasked with reviewing the report and submitting recommendations.

The committee chairman, Isiaka Ayokunle, emphasized the need to align government structures with current realities, best practices, and societal needs. Stakeholder engagement, including a public hearing on July 10 in Abuja, will play a crucial role in the comprehensive review process.
