Ministry of Labor Ensures Rights of Workers on Official Holidays
The Ministry of Labor in Amman has confirmed that the rights of workers in the private sector are protected when it comes to official and religious holidays. In accordance with the decisions issued by the Special Bureau for the Interpretation of Laws, any government communiqués specifying holidays also apply to private sector institutions in the Kingdom.
Article 59 of Jordan Labor Law outlines the compensation mechanism for workers employed on weekly rest days, religious holidays, and official holidays. Workers are entitled to an additional pay of at least 150% of their usual wage during these times.
The ministry has communicated with various stakeholders including the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Ministry of Investment, Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), and other trade bodies to ensure compliance with these regulations.
