A tragic incident in Pakistan’s Bajur district claimed the lives of former Senator Hidayatullah Khan and four others in a roadside bombing during an election campaign. The vehicle carrying Khan was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb, also killing two colleagues and two police guards.
Government Response
The use of an improvised explosive device (IED) was confirmed by officials, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemning the attack. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible, as violence in the region has escalated in recent times.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Denial
Although Bajur was once a stronghold of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the group has denied involvement in the bombing. Pakistani authorities believe TTP militants find shelter with Afghan Taliban, a claim the Taliban refutes.
Last year, a suicide bombing at a political rally in Bajur killed dozens, leading to a government-led counterterrorism operation. The situation remains tense as the region faces ongoing security challenges.
