Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s request for house arrest during his corruption sentence was denied by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. The court rejected his application to verify if the then-King had ordered house arrest, following a pardon board’s decision to cut his 12-year sentence in half earlier this year.

High Court Justice dismissed the application, stating it did not warrant a full hearing. Despite this, Najib’s lawyer announced plans to appeal the decision. The 70-year-old ex-Prime Minister was imprisoned in 2022 for his involvement in the 1MDB state fund scandal, aimed at stimulating economic growth.

Najib is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison in Selangor. The legal battle continues as Razak seeks alternative arrangements for his imprisonment.
