Passengers from an Air Europa flight diverted to northeastern Brazil due to severe turbulence on Monday described fearing for their lives during the incident, which left around 40 people injured, with four taken to intensive care units.
One passenger recounted the harrowing experience in Natal, Brazil, where the flight from Madrid to Montevideo made an unscheduled landing. Another passenger mentioned the sudden plunge of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, causing injuries to those without seat belts.
Air Europa expressed regret over the incident and provided support to the affected passengers. The plane is under review for damage assessment, as six passengers remain hospitalized in Natal.
The airline arranged a replacement flight to Montevideo and emphasized passenger safety. Recent turbulence incidents have led to heightened safety concerns in the aviation industry.
