Traditional Japanese crafts popular with Haneda Airport tourists

Experience the allure of traditional Japanese crafts at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, where tourists are flocking to a specialty store showcasing delicate craftsmanship and vibrant colors. Japan Mastery Collection, opened at Haneda’s Terminal 3, offers a wide range of items such as the eye-catching Sanuki Kagari Temari hand ball, Tsugaru Vidro glassworks, and Kutaniyaki porcelain sake cups decorated with gold leaf.

The weak yen is also driving the popularity of these crafts, attracting an increasing number of international tourists. In fiscal 2023, the number of tourists flying to and from Haneda on international flights skyrocketed to 10.37 million, with foreign visitors making up 95% of shoppers at JMC.

With efforts to develop new sales channels and showcase the artisanship passed down through generations, craft producers are eager to share their creations with the world. Yoshie Nakamura of Haneda Future Research Institute expressed the importance of supporting craftspeople and introducing their works to a global audience.

Explore the beauty of traditional Japanese crafts and take home a piece of Japan’s rich cultural heritage from Japan Mastery Collection at Haneda Airport.
