The Turkish military has escalated tensions in border areas with Idlib and Aleppo by sending reinforcements, as reported by Al-Mayadeen TV English website. Protests at checkpoints in Atarib, Aleppo, were met with force, resulting in injuries.
Opposition sources claim Turkey has shut down several border crossings in Aleppo’s countryside, allegedly due to attacks on Turkish nationals by protesters. Incidents of violence include gunfire at Turkish armored vehicles in Afrin, clashes at the Bab al-Salameh crossing, and an attack on a Turkish security vehicle in northern Syria. The Turkey-appointed governor’s office in Afrin was reportedly stormed, and internet disruptions were reported across northern Syria.
Despite reports of a meeting between Syrian and Turkish military delegations in Hmeimim airbase, senior Syrian sources deny any such occurrence. Additionally, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration closed all crossings to Syrian government-controlled areas in Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, and the Syrian interior.
Unrest and uncertainty continue to plague the region as tensions between various factions persist.
