The Director of the Spanish Department of National Security (DSN), General Loreto Gutiérrez Hurtado, recently stated that Morocco is not currently seen as a threat to Spain, specifically regarding the territories of Ceuta and Melilla. This reassurance was provided during a breakfast briefing held by the Club Dialogues for Democracy.

General Gutiérrez emphasized that Morocco is not included in Spain’s National Security Strategy and highlighted the importance of defending the State. Working groups are in place to address issues related to Ceuta and Melilla, as well as other autonomous regions, with no specific concerns currently identified.

Additionally, General Hurtado flagged disinformation campaigns as a significant security challenge for Spain. This stance echoes previous comments made by Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, who also downplayed Morocco as a direct threat to Spain, citing Algeria as Morocco’s primary rival.
