Ukraine still faces the challenge of rebuilding its infrastructure, with many cities left in ruins after the war. While international volunteers and a state funding program have been assisting in the recovery efforts, many residents take matters into their own hands.
One of the cities affected, Chernihiv, saw heavy bombing resulting in loss of life and destruction of buildings. The ongoing military shelling poses a constant threat to the region.
Despite the challenges, progress has been made in restoration. With more than 10,000 affected sites, over half have been restored in the past two years. One such example is the village of Novoselivka, where battles occurred in 2022.
Individuals like Natalia Makiyenko have benefited from the state’s “e-Restoration” program, receiving funds for repairs. However, challenges remain, such as cases of joint property ownership affecting compensation disbursement.
Through resilience and international assistance, communities are slowly rebuilding and restoring what was lost, showcasing the spirit and determination of the Ukrainian people.
