Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to explore possibilities for peace. Orban’s visit comes amidst escalating tensions in the region.

“The purpose of the Hungarian Presidency [at the Council of the EU] is to contribute to solving the challenges that the European Union is facing. Therefore, my first trip took me to Kyiv,” Orban said.

Orban emphasized the importance of cooperation to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. He outlined conditions for a ceasefire, linking it to the US election outcome and future negotiations between the US and Russia.

Vladimir Fesenko, a Ukrainian political scientist, sees Orban’s visit as a demonstration of EU representation and influence in resolving the crisis. The meeting also included discussions on enhancing bilateral relations and education initiatives.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, highlighted the need for Hungary to fulfill its EU Council responsibilities regarding the Ukrainian conflict. The visit aimed to facilitate dialogue and find peaceful solutions to the ongoing crisis.
