The Ondo Government issued a warning to “minor chiefs” in the state about wearing beaded crowns, with a threat of three years imprisonment for non-compliance. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, emphasized the existing laws prohibiting anyone who is not an Oba from wearing a beaded crown.
He stressed the importance of protecting the traditional institution and maintaining its integrity. Any minor chief caught disobeying the directive will face legal consequences. Takuro also discussed the ongoing dispute regarding the creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) and reassured the community that the LCDA would remain in Ondo State.
The government is working on resolving the issue through alternative dispute resolutions and plans to hold a local government election soon. In addition, preventive measures, such as de-silting projects, are being implemented to curb flooding across the state. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to maintaining order and infrastructure within the community.
