Hurricane Beryl strengthens, heads to Jamaica, threatens catastrophe.

The St. Vincent community of Prospect reported roofs ripped off buildings and power cuts in some areas, while in Grenada, power was down islandwide. Mexico began preparations for Beryl’s arrival, urging extreme caution. The country is already assessing damage from heavy rain brought by former tropical storm Chris.

The impact of climate change is evident as global warming has caused temperatures in the North Atlantic to soar, providing fuel for more intense hurricanes. Experts predict an active hurricane season with Beryl as a harbinger. Scientists warn that climate change is increasing the likelihood of intense hurricanes forming quickly, as seen with Beryl’s rapid intensification from Category 1 to Category 4.

Despite the damage caused by Beryl, limited impacts were reported in Tobago. The All Tobago Fisherfolk Association president noted that warnings were heeded, with fisherfolk able to protect their boats.
