Good news for survivors of the Nazi occupation in Poland during World War II! The German government has announced that they will be providing assistance to those who suffered during this dark period of history. German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz made this announcement during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw on July 2.
Scholz expressed Germany’s recognition of the gravity of its guilt and responsibility for the millions of victims of the German occupation. Berlin maintains its commitment to historical responsibility, with financial aid expected to reach survivors in the coming months.
While the exact amount of compensation for the approximately 40,000 affected Poles has not been disclosed, Prime Minister Tusk praised the Chancellor’s statement as a step in the right direction. He emphasized that no sum of money can fully compensate for the atrocities of World War II.
