According to a report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the level of food insecurity in Aden and other southern provinces controlled by the Saudi-led coalition has increased by over 11% in May compared to the previous year. The nutritional situation has been deteriorating, with insufficient food consumption among families rising to 53.7% due to increased food prices and currency devaluation.
Provinces like Abyan, Bayda, Jawf, and others have witnessed the highest rates of food insecurity, leading to a decline in purchasing power among citizens. The UN agency has called for expanded emergency food assistance in the most vulnerable areas to address the sharp deterioration in food security.
With the World Food Program (WFP) cutting off aid to nearly nine million people in Sanaa-controlled areas, the situation is dire. Urgent measures are needed to combat hunger and poverty in Aden and the rest of Southern Yemen.
