South Sudan’s National Minister of Finance, Awow Daniel Chuang, recently presented the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Bill 2024 to the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) for review and adoption. This bill aims to enhance the delivery of public goods and services, such as utilities, education, medical care, and facilities, to the citizens.
According to Chuang, this legislation will promote fiscal discipline in government spending, improve accountability and transparency in procurement processes, and ultimately lead to better services for the people of South Sudan. Additionally, it is expected to increase income opportunities for suppliers, create employment opportunities, and boost government revenue through taxes.
The chairperson of the TNLA’s information committee, Oliver Mori Benjamin, emphasized the importance of the bill in guiding the disposal of public assets. With proper regulations in place, ministries and departments will have a framework to follow when acquiring or disposing of assets, ensuring a more transparent and efficient process overall.
