China Urges US to Stop Meddling in Internal Affairs
In response to a recent report released by the US on religious freedom, China has urged the US to refrain from using “so-called religious issues” to interfere in its internal affairs. The Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the report as being filled with lies and disinformation, reiterating that China opposes it.
The US State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report accused the Chinese government of conducting surveillance and repression on Muslims in Xinjiang and criticized Beijing for its treatment of ethnic Uyghurs. However, China maintains that it protects its citizens’ freedom of religious belief in accordance with the law.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that China has close to 200 million religious believers and multiple religious groups and places registered for activities. Mao also refuted the “genocide” allegation, citing population census data to support her claims.
Amid allegations of religious discrimination and persecution in the US, China urges the US to respect the facts, correct its wrongdoings, and refrain from meddling in China’s internal affairs.
