Tragedy struck at a Hindu religious gathering in India’s Uttar Pradesh, leading to the death of at least 27 people and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred during a celebration of the Hindu deity Shiva in the city of Hathras, resulting in a stampede that claimed the lives of 25 women and 2 men.
Deadly accidents are unfortunately common at places of worship during religious festivals in India, with previous incidents such as a temple explosion in 2016 and stampedes in 2013 and 2008 resulting in numerous casualties.
