Israeli Forces Release Director of Gaza Hospital After Alleged Hamas Connection
After seven months of detainment, Mohammed Abu Selmia, director of Gaza’s main hospital, was released by Israeli forces on Monday. The release without charge or trial has raised doubts about Israel’s allegations that Al-Shifa Hospital was being used as a Hamas command center.
Abu Selmia spoke out about the torture and harsh conditions he endured while in custody, claiming that detainees were subjected to daily abuse. Israeli officials have not commented on his mistreatment allegations, with previous denials from prison authorities.
The Israeli military raided Al-Shifa Hospital twice during the nine-month war in Gaza, following allegations that Hamas had set up a command center inside the facility. However, evidence found by the military did not fully support these claims.
Israel’s war on Gaza has resulted in thousands of casualties and mass displacement, leading to a humanitarian crisis with limited aid access. The situation is further complicated by ongoing fighting and fears of famine in the region.
