An accountability court granted pre-arrest bail to former premier Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, in a £190 million corruption reference. The case involves alleged corruption in the Al-Qadir University Project Trust, where Khan and his wife are accused of obtaining billions of rupees and land from Bahria Town Ltd.
Imran Khan, currently in jail, is said to have played a pivotal role in the illicit transfer of funds for the payment of land by Bahria Town. Khan and his wife were indicted in the case, with others involved being declared proclaimed offenders.
During the recent hearing, Bushra Bibi’s lawyers submitted a bail request, which was approved by the judge. NAB argued against the bail request, but the judge ultimately granted it after completion of arguments.
The reference outlined how the accused refused to provide information, committing offences under the National Accountability Ordinance. It implicated Imran Khan, Malik Riaz, Mirza Shahzad Akbar, Farhat Shahzadi, and Zulfi Bukhari in corrupt practices. The reference pleaded for the suspects to be tried and punished accordingly.
