Children Abducted in Eastern Equatoria State Recovered By GPAA Authorities

Over the weekend, Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) authorities successfully recovered three children who were abducted from Eastern Equatoria State’s Kapoeta East County back in April. The children, two boys, and one girl, all under 13 years old, were reunited with their families after an extensive operation conducted by GPAA authorities.

The initiative, led by GPAA Information Minister Oleyo Akuar Nyalus, aims to build trust and peaceful coexistence between GPAA and neighboring communities in Eastern Equatoria State. The recovered children are currently under the care of GPAA in Pibor and will soon be reunited with their families in Kapoeta East.

Although none of the abductors have been arrested yet, GPAA authorities remain vigilant in their search for more abducted children in Lobrok and Maruot areas. The continuous abduction of children by armed Murle youth is a serious violation, and GPAA is committed to ending this practice and promoting peace in the region.

Eastern Equatoria State Minister Jennifer Nabongorika and Kapoeta East County Commissioner Abdala Angelo Lokeno have both shown support for GPAA’s efforts in recovering abducted children and have urged them to continue their search. The ultimate goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the region.
