The weather is expected to remain unusually cold in the coming days
Subzero temperatures were recorded in southern Brazil as a strong mass of polar air swept through the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, and Santa Catarina. Urupema had the lowest temperature of -7.2°C, with other cities like São Joaquim, Urubici, and Painel also experiencing below-freezing temperatures. In Rio Grande do Sul, São José dos Ausentes and Gramado recorded -4°C and 0°C respectively.
Additional cold is expected in the coming days due to intensified winds. In the Pantanal region, low temperatures helped firefighters combat wildfires, believed to be caused by a mix of human activities, drought, and deforestation. The fires have spread to Mato Grosso do Sul, affecting areas like Corumbá.
