Provinces mandated to submit climate change report by SC

Supreme court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a significant step towards addressing climate change by ordering provinces to submit reports on the practical steps they are taking to tackle this pressing issue. The three-member bench, led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, emphasized the need for concrete actions rather than just policies.

During the hearing, the court questioned the provinces about their preparations and demanded details on budget allocations for climate change initiatives. While Punjab and Balochistan shared their progress, Sindh faced criticism for lack of budget allocation in this regard.

Chief Secretaries from various provinces highlighted the policies and projects initiated to combat climate change, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa standing out for its dedicated budget allocation and ongoing efforts. The court urged all provinces to submit comprehensive reports by July 15.

This proactive stance by the Supreme Court showcases a commitment to environmental sustainability and holds governments accountable for their actions in mitigating climate change effects.
