Jamaat Islami to Hold Protest Sit-In Against Over-Billing and Power Loadshedding
Jamaat Islami has announced a protest sit-in in Islamabad on July 12 to address the issues of over-billing and power loadshedding. Ameer Jamaat Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman expressed concern over the impact of the ongoing heatwave, citing the deaths of 1,000 people, yet K-Electric has failed to reduce electricity loadshedding in Karachi.
Hafiz Naeem criticized the privatization of the power utility, noting that despite 19 years passing since its privatization, line losses remain high and electricity prices are exorbitant. He blamed the government and NEPRA for neglecting the people’s welfare.
The JI Ameer declared their intention to address these issues through the upcoming sit-in, stating, “We will now settle every issue with the sit-in.” He pledged to compel the government to revoke the increase in power tariff and taxes through their protest.
