The Israeli military’s mass evacuation order for Palestinians in Khan Yunis hints at an upcoming ground assault on Gaza’s second-largest city. This move suggests that new Israeli attacks will target areas previously entered during the pursuit of Hamas militants over the past nine months.
Despite earlier destruction in Khan Yunis, many Palestinians have returned to avoid further offensives in Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza. The recent release of Mohammed Abu Selmia, the director of Gaza’s main hospital, came after seven months of detention without charge. Allegations had surfaced that the hospital was used as a Hamas command center.
Abu Selmia, who claimed to have been subjected to harsh treatment and torture, along with other Palestinian health officials, denied the accusations of hospital abuse. While some Israeli leaders have expressed outrage and accused Abu Selmia of involvement in Hamas activities at the hospital, the director maintains his innocence.
