Tragic Incident: Sri Lankan Fishermen Die After Drinking Unknown Liquids Found at Sea
Tragedy struck as five Sri Lankan fishermen lost their lives after consuming unknown liquids found in bottles adrift at sea, the nation’s navy reported. The group of six fishermen, on a multiday trip, discovered the bottles floating approximately 320 nautical miles off the Sri Lankan coast. Mistaking the contents for alcohol, they drank from the bottles, resulting in the deaths of four fishermen, with a fifth succumbing later. One survivor was evacuated for urgent medical treatment.
The Sri Lankan navy swiftly responded by dispatching a medical team to aid the surviving fisherman and warned nearby trawlers of the dangers of consuming unknown substances. In a separate incident, the navy arrested 25 Indian fishermen for violating maritime boundaries, continuing tensions over fishing rights between the two nations.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by fishermen at sea and underscores the importance of safety precautions and awareness while on maritime expeditions.
