The Ekiti State Government has rejected the planned two-month power outage in July and August as announced by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
The government described the outage as economically, financially, and socially detrimental to the citizens of the state. A meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 2 to address this issue at the Ekiti State Government Secretariat.
The BEDC had planned the outage due to critical maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the 132 kV Akure-Osogbo transmission line. However, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Public Utility, Mobolaji Aluko, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of direct communication with the state government regarding this matter.
The commissioner demanded the immediate suspension of the plan and called for an emergency meeting with stakeholders. The TCN apologized for any inconvenience caused by the outage but some Ekiti State electricity consumers voiced their opposition to the planned outage.
