Non-Chinese permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macau will now have the opportunity to apply for five-year travel permits to enter mainland China starting July 10. This move, announced by Beijing, is aimed at encouraging foreign companies and talent to settle in the city.
The multi-entry permits will allow holders self-service clearance at control points after completing procedures such as fingerprint collection. They can utilize the permit for short-term purposes like investment, visiting relatives, tourism, and business activities for up to 90 days per visit, however, working, studying, or news-gathering activities are prohibited.
The application process can be done through China Travel Service (Holdings) in both Hong Kong and Macau for a fee of HK$260. The central government’s decision to issue these permits aims to enhance people-to-people exchanges between the regions and mainland China, promoting overall national development.
The introduction of these travel permits is part of Beijing’s visa facilitation measures for Hong Kong, showing the country’s support for the city’s international talent and diverse community.
