Saudi Arabia to Reopen Embassy in Kabul as Afghanistan’s Interim Government Announces
The interim administration of Afghanistan revealed on Sunday that Saudi Arabia is planning to reopen its embassy in Kabul. Interim government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid shared that Saudi Arabia expressed its intention to reopen the embassy as soon as possible.
Mujahid, currently in Doha for a UN meeting, mentioned that during a meeting with the Afghan delegation, the Saudi representatives emphasized the desire for good interaction with Afghanistan. This move signifies the importance of Saudi Arabia in the eyes of Afghanistan.
Since the change in Afghanistan’s administration in August 2021, several countries had shuttered their embassies in Kabul. The decision by Saudi Arabia to reopen its embassy heralds a meaningful shift in the diplomatic dynamics of the region.
