Austria’s far-right Freedom Party and Czech ANO party led by Andrej Babis team up with Hungary for EU presidency
A new political alliance is forming in the European Parliament, led by Austria’s far-right Freedom Party (FPO), Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz, and the Czech ANO party led by Andrej Babis. This alliance, named “Patriots for Europe,” aims to change European politics and challenge the influence of the Brussels elite.
By signing a “patriotic manifesto,” the leaders promise peace, security, and development, contrasting it with what they perceive as the negative impact of the current European leadership. The alliance requires support from parties in at least four other countries to become an official group in the European Parliament.
‘New era’
As Hungary takes over the EU presidency, Orban’s motto of “Make Europe Great Again” has raised concerns among European leaders. Amidst controversies about Hungary’s stance on key EU decisions, the country now has the opportunity to prioritize its agenda during its six-month presidency.
This new political alliance signals a shift in European politics, as nationalist parties seek to capitalize on voter concerns and increase their influence on EU policy.
