A former minister of works and housing, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, emphasized the need for continued improvement in the education sector in Lagos despite some progress. Speaking at the foundation laying of a 100-student capacity hostel at Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo, Ogunlewe highlighted the necessity for the government to provide free textbooks, exercise books, and writing materials to every student.
Ogunlewe stressed that basic education should be a governmental responsibility and suggested that distributing essential learning materials would enhance educational standards and decrease the number of out-of-school children. Additionally, he called for the promotion of school farming to alleviate food scarcity and lower food prices.
Furthermore, Ogunlewe advocated for alumni support in maintaining school infrastructure, citing the construction of the hostel by his family to accommodate school staff and facilitate effective service delivery. The hostel was donated in honor of two esteemed figures from the Fadugba-Ogunlewe royal families, symbolizing a commitment to educational upliftment in the community.
Overall, Ogunlewe’s remarks underscore the importance of holistic governmental support and community engagement in enhancing the quality of education in Lagos.
