Tragedy struck in Gwoza, Nigeria, as three bomb blasts claimed the lives of 18 individuals and left 48 seriously injured. The first explosion occurred at a wedding, where a woman detonated a bomb in a crowded motor park. Moments later, a hospital and a funeral were also targeted, resulting in devastating casualties, including children.
Local authorities, including the Emergency Management Agency of Borno state, are providing medical treatment to the wounded. The incident has been condemned by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who reassured citizens of their safety and promised the perpetrators will face justice.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the bombings, Nigeria has long been plagued by terrorist activities, with groups like Islamic State West Africa and Boko Haram carrying out attacks. Despite claims of victory over Boko Haram in 2019, the group continues to pose a threat, as evidenced by recent deadly raids.
