• Ecnec Approves 19 Development Projects Worth Rs411.01 Billion
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has given the green light to 19 development projects totaling Rs411.01 billion. Among the approved projects are the realignment of the Karakoram Highway between Thakot and Raikot and the revised PC-I for the new Gwadar airport. However, the upgrade of Railways ML-1 project did not receive approval.
The Ecnec meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, also saw the endorsement of a World Bank project for the KKH realignment, along with various other agenda items recommended by the Central Development Working Party.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to replace Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb as Ecnec chairman with Mr. Dar was also mentioned, emphasizing the importance of decision-making for economic and development plans in the country.
Projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were also given the go-ahead, including the realignment of KKH and the new Gwadar airport.
Ecnec’s approval of projects in Sindh and Balochistan, such as the Flood Response Emergency Housing Project and the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Programme, signifies a boost to infrastructure and development in these regions.
The forum’s decisions aim to accelerate the pace of reconstruction and development, ensuring quality and sustainability in all approved projects.
